Adobe Spark is a web-based program (and has a free mobile app) that offers Post (graphics, memes, quotes, etc), Page (web stories), and Video (digital storytelling) options. Adobe Spark is FREE and it can be used with mobile devices.

Adobe Spark would be an exceptional tool for students to use for projects!

I created this example using my iPhone with my headphones (that have a microphone).

Short Overview of Adobe Spark

Technology Tool of the Week:

g(Math) is a Google Doc add-on that allows you to create math equations, expressions, graphs, formulas, and handwritten equations right in Google Docs! I know that many of you have asked about how to use Google Docs for math equations without using MathType…. this is a great alternative!

A Google Doc add-on is searched within Google Docs. Go to Google Docs, then find the “Add-ons” tab, and scroll down to “Get Add-ons”.

HOUR OF CODE WEEK 2016!

December 6-11, 2016

Hour of Code Template.jpg

This week schools all over the world will be participating in “Hour of Code 2016”. Students can go to a number of websites and try basic coding for an hour. See the Hour of Code EHS Library Lib Guide for suggestions!

The library will be hosting an open lab all day Tuesday, December 7th, and Wednesday, December 8th. Students can come down during their free time and try coding!  (Students that participate in the library will receive a sticker as seen above!). I am hoping to organize a larger presence in our school next year for Hour of Code...stay tuned.

For more information on the Hour of Code see below!

Technology Tool of the Week:
Want to save some time correcting exams that are true/false or multiple choice? Try ZipGrade! You can scan 100 exams per month for free! Download the bubble sheets, input the answers, and take a pic of the student's bubble sheet and it grades the exam instantly! Check out this video that shows how it works!

Technology Tool of the Week:

Is it difficult for your students to think of something to write about? Are they having trouble getting motivated to write? Write about is an online collection of images and writing prompts for students to get inspired to write and share! (This website does have a paid subscription, but you can have up to 40 students using Write About for free). See the video below:

Another helpful resource is...

I believe most of you are familiar with TED talks? TED Ed was created to gather up great lessons from teacher all around the world and animate them to share. Please see the below movie about TED Ed...

HOUR OF CODE!  DECEMBER 5-11, 2016 (NEXT WEEK).

Schools all over the world will be participating in "Hour of Code". I will be sending out links in next Tuesday Tech Tidbits for websites that your students can try coding and be part of the awareness of coding for all students!

"The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2016 Computer Science Education Week will be December 5-11, but you can host an Hour of Code all year round. Computer Science Education Week is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906)" (Code.org).

Please watch this video!

HERE IS HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!

Technology Tool of the Week:

Orange Slice is a Google Doc add-on that can generate a rubric right onto a Google Doc for easy grading and clear student expectations.
Orange Slice not only has a teacher rubric add-on but also a student rubric add- on if you want the students to grade their own work.

Here is a tutorial and explanation of Orange Slice! It works well with Google Classroom and in Google Docs.

This is a snapshot of what the Orange Slice rubric looks like in Google Docs. The rubric gives clear feedback to students by highlighted the selection in yellow. Teachers can also use the option to add comments for each category of the rubric for further feedback to students.

Technology Tool of the Week:

Kahoot! is and educational technology tool that can be used for formative assessment, in a fun, engaging format. Students can use any device (Chromebook, iPad, iPhone, Smartphone, Tablet, Laptop or Desktop) to participate in the game. Teachers can use Kahoots! made by other people (there is a large gallery of existing Kahoots!) or  make their own. The teacher will need to use a projector for the class to see the questions. The students use their devices to answer the questions. See the below video!

For those of you who already use Kahoot! for formative assessment, try this new method of introducing new content using the “Blind Kahoot!” method! See video below!

Technology Tool of the Week:

Formative is a GREAT educational tool for collecting formative data from your students. You can import an existing document (from Google Docs or Word), create a new document, and comment student work. You can see all of the students screen, as they work, and comment on the work (while they are working!)! Import videos from YouTube, and other media.
