Technology Tips of the Week: New Google Sites Features!

I get pretty excited about the small things sometimes. There has been some additions in the New Google Sites that I want to share.

Most recently, the New Google Sites now has the option to add a "new link" that will bring you directly from the page name to a URL. This may not seem too exciting, but if you have been using the New Google Sites you will understand HOW HAPPY this feature has made me.
In the past, I needed to create a page, then on the page add a picture, then I had to add a URL to the picture so the viewer would open the page and click on the image to get to the URL. Exhausting!

Now, all you do is this!

Under the "Pages" tab (in the New Google Sites), hover your cursor over the + sign (where you add a page). You will now see "New Link"!

If you choose "New Link" you can link a URL and the text you connect it to will now be a page.

If you want to see how it looks on a live website, go to my TECH website, and click on "1:1 Chromebooks" tab! The tab moves you directly to the website.

After you click "new link" you will a box to name the page and add the link (URL). You can check off "open in a new page".

Another neat feature is a custom "favicon" (pronounced "fav-icon" I think!). The favicon is an image that will be seen on the tabs for your website!

See here:

I added the Blue Hawk icon to the Technology website, and the computer to the 1:1.

 To add a favicon:

Click on the 3 dots next to "Publish", then choose "Add favicon".

Next, you can upload an image from your computer or select one from Google.

Under the "SEARCH" tab, you can select a favicon image for your website!

The final favicon will only be seen on the tab AFTER you publish your website and go to the published site!

Have fun!
