April 05, 2021___________________________________________________________Everyone has accidentally deleted something they should not have at one time or another. It may seem that when using Canvas, if you delete an assignment by accident (especially if it has been graded), you may be in big trouble! Fortunately, if this happens, not all hope is lost. As you may or may not know, Canvas has a handy "chat with support" feature. Our school pays for this feature and it is very helpful if you have a question. I recently reached out to chat to help a teacher recover an assignment that was deleted by accident.
From the Canvas home page, you will see on the bottom left of the tool bar, "Help" with a question mark icon. Click that and you will see the below options;
Earlier this year, the wait time was significant due to Canvas being set up across the state and country due to Covid. The wait times have significantly decreased, so give it another try if you haven't used it in a while!
I reached out to Canvas Support chat and they showed me how to find deleted items. One thing you want to be aware of is that there are only a certain number of deleted items that are available to restore.
This means if you delete something accidentally, you want to restore it as soon as possible so that it is still available for restore. The number of deleted items can be filled up by deleted announcements, for example.
Where do I find deleted items in Canvas?
1. Go to your Canvas course and open it.2. Go to the URL of the home page from the class you deleted the item. 3. Add /undelete to the end of the URL. 4. You will see a list "Restore Deleted Items".
5. Find the item you want to restore, and click "restore". 6. That's it!
