This is the LAST Tuesday Tech Tidbits of the 2016-2017 school year! Can you believe it?
If you are leaving the school district, or know of students leaving (moving or seniors), this is a great way to move your Google Drive files from SAU16.org to your personal Gmail account.
Technology Tips of the Week: Clean up your Gmail Inbox
There are a few ways to clean up your Gmail inbox to prepare for summer vacation!
Search for email that is older than a certain date (say 6 months for example). You can use the arrow next to the search box at the top of Gmail and you will see the image to the left.
Create folders to organize important emails and delete the ones you do not need. To create a folder, on the left menu of Gmail (under categories) choose “Create New Label”.
Here is video tutorial that explains how select files to put in folders then delete the rest of the existing emails (even if there are multiple pages or thousands of emails!).
Backup your computer files for Re-Imaging:
To prepare your computer to be re-imaged, please backup your data! (You can use an external hard drive, thumb drive, or cloud storage (such as Google Drive or Dropbox).
Places to back-up...
Desktop
Home Folder (Home is only stored on the computer)
Downloads folder (many times you do not need these files, but look there just in case).
The network folder IS BACKED UP! It looks like this…
It is the SAME as what you see when you open this...
Google Drive files ARE SAFE (cloud storage). All of your Google Bookmarks are SAFE (as long as you are logged into Google Chrome when you save them).
Technology Tips of the Week: End-of-Year Google Classroom Clean-up
I would like to share this article by Eric Curtis called “End-of-Year Google Classroom Clean-Up”. This article highlights the below six steps to help you clean up your Google Classroom and prepare for next year.
Return Student Work (in Classroom)
Un-enroll Students
Archive (this works well if you choose to not “un-enroll”)
Remove old classroom calendars
Move old class folders in Drive
Remove class “shared with me” files
Here is a tutorial I created to show how to archive your classes in Google Classroom.
How can I use this in my class?
It is important to keep Google Classroom Organized for your students (and for yourself!). If you follow the suggestions above then students will be able to still access their work and you will be able to access pre-existing assignments.
