Tip of the Week: Google Forms Quizzes- start one day, finish the next!

I wanted to share with you a way that you create a Google Form Quiz to start during one class period and finish a different day if needed.

In September of 2021, Google Forms added the AUTOSAVE feature (See Tidbit: Google Forms Quizzes Now Autosave)! We have been hoping for this feature for a while.

What happens if you want to start a quiz or test on one day and finish it on another day?

I was working with a teacher recently that posed this question. We did some testing with autosave, and also with finding a solution to preventing students from changing answers over the evening hours.

On day one:

  • Students take your quiz/test as normal. The Google Form will autosave their answers. Students should be sure to be signed into their school Gmail account
  • At the end of the class- Go to the Google Form that you created the Quiz/Test. Click on the "Responses" tab.

  • Change the setting where you see "Accepting Responses" by moving the bar from right to left. Once you shut OFF this feature, you will see red band across the form that says "not accepting responses".  Keep the quiz safe from students changing previous answers at home by shutting off the quiz.

On day two of the quiz/test:

  • Go back to the "Responses" tab and turn ON accepting responses. The red band will disappear and students will not be able to get back into the quiz to finish the test.
  • NOTE: Students will be able to go back into previous questions and adjust answers if they want.
  • They will need to "submit" the quiz at the end when they finished.
