Tip of the Week: Google Meet New Features- Whiteboard (Jamboard) and Blurred Background!

For those of you who have been using Google Meet for video conferencing, they have recently released two new features: Whiteboard (which is actually using Google's Jamboard), and Blurred Background! Yay!

If you do not yet see these features, you will very soon. They are rolling out over time.

Lets start with where to find these features. When you open up a new Google Meet and join, you will see in the lower right hand corner three dots (see image below). Click the three dots to get these options:

"Whiteboard" Open a Jam
Clicking on the Whiteboard option will open these two choices "Start a new whiteboard" or "Choose from Drive"(this allows you to upload a previous or saved Jamboard from your Drive). If you start a  new whiteboard, Google's Jamboard will open and a link will be shared to those that are on the Google Meet.
If you have not used Jamboard before, it is an interactive white board that allows the class to draw, add text, shapes, images, etc. at the same time. You can add new slides on the same Jamboard. Math teachers, for example, could present a math problem and ask someone to solve it in the Google Meet. There are many other examples of how you can use Jamboard in your classes.
Turn on Background Blur:
As you may or may not know, the virtual backgrounds in Zoom do not work on a chromebook. I think that this is a great feature for teachers and students to use.

Simply click "Turn on background blur" and background will be blurred out. To shut off the background blur, click the three dots again and you will see this option;
