Tip of the Week: Shut off Google Chat while you are using Zoom or Meet.

Just recently a teacher I was speaking with pointed out that if you have Google Hangouts Chat on, if you are in a Zoom or Meet, the notifications could pop up for all to see. I thought this was a valid point, and so today I wanted to share with you how to mute or shut off your Google Chat notifications to avoid this happening to you!

How can I avoid my chat from popping up during a Zoom or Meet?

There is a simple way to avoid this from happening.
  1. Go to chat.google.com.
  2. In the upper left side of the screen click on "active" (see image below).
  3. You can choose the "mute notifications" for a set time, or shut them off completely. To pick to mute for a set time,  select 30 min, 1 hour, etc. (see below). To shut off notifications completely, choose "notification settings".
  4. If you selected "notification settings" then you can choose to shut off notification settings for desktop, mobile, and email.
