Tip of the Week: Kami - Flatten Annotations

Have you ever wondered how to add annotations to a .pdf using Kami, then save it so that they are not longer editable? That is when you want to save it by checking off "Flatten Annotations" when you are "exporting". I will show you how to do this in just a minute!

Why would you want to "flatten annotations"? (here are a few example)

  • If you want to assign a Kami assignment using a .pdf and you want to add text that will NOT be editable to students when they open it (such as a direction, or highlighting/circling something important for example).
  • If you want to share a .pdf that has been annotated and you do not not want anyone to be able to change what you added.
  • If you want to be able to "see" annotations without opening it up in Kami and you are done with editing.
How do I "flatten annotations" in Kami?

  • When you are all done editing your .pdf in Kami, go to "Download" (the icon to download looks like the image below- located in the upper right corner of Kami)
  • Next, select "Google Drive", "with annotations", Rename the file, check off "Flatten Annotation , Begin Export
Below image shows the settings to create a flattened .pdf from Kami.
